The subject deals with suprasegmental aspects of contemporary English pronunciation, focussing on areas potentially affected by interference from Czech. The lecture provides a theoretical background, the seminars aim to develop practical pronunciation skills through imitation of native speaker models and through reading aloud. By the end of the course, students should master standard, natural and easily comprehensible pronunciation, and, on the receptive level, should be able to understand a range of standard and some non-standard spoken accents.
